I've been out of the writing loop for a bit, but I heard about this free recurring writing contest. One of the prizes is a 10-page critique from an agent. The theme this time is middle-grade fiction. The deadline is tomorrow, but it's worth a shot: http://www.writersdigest.com/editor-blogs/guide-to-literary-agents/11th-free-dear-lucky-agent-contest-middle-grade-fiction

Back to the Drawing Board

I've been working on writing, revising, and submitting my novel for so long, I realized it'd been a long time since I'd drawn a picture. So, the other night, I sat down and started sketching a portrait from one of my favorite sources: National Geographic magazine. When I can't think of anything to draw from my imagination, I can usually find something in there. I used my favorite pencil (Dixon Ticonderoga...better than any drawing pencil out there, in my opinion) and plain old printer paper. Even though I'm a little rusty, I think it turned out okay:
